Racism Starts at Home

In order to make steps towards ending racism against African American youth in our country, it is imperative that children are taught differently in their homes by their parents. Outdated views about race in America are still being taught to the children of today. Parents should understand the impressionability of today's youth and should be careful to teach them about other's without bias. This short article brings up a good point that racism is not something that a person is born with. The values that the person is taught and the experiences that a person has cause racism to be developed. A change in the ways that children are taught is a sure fire way to begin to end racism.

You are right, racism is a learned attitude, not a natural one we are born with. As the generation who grew up surrounded by and promoting racism is dying out, we need to ensure that racism dies out with them. We can do this by raising our children in an accepting, loving environment that does not foster hatred or prejudice. Do you have any specific ideas concerning how we can teach our children this acceptance that parents of previous generations did not use?

This was a very good post in my opinion because it brought up a very good point that many people may not understand. Racism does start at home and will continue to thrive. However, I think that it would be good for you to point out other races that are victims of racism, not just African Americans. Or is your blog only based on the black race?

That is a really good point that people aren't born being racist. I guess that is pretty obvious but I had never really thought about it that way before. If children are not taught that being a different race is okay then they may start to form racist opinions or tendencies at a young age. Even when children are simply exposed to racists jokes and comments whether serious or not this could cause the child to develop a sense of racism that could eventually grow into something that could have been prevented from a young age.

When children are young they pretty much just listen to whatever they tell them and believe they are right. Children are to young to know whatis right and wrong and so they just mimc their parents believe until they are old enough to come up with their own ideas. Even when they do find the truth they may still be so brainwashed and set in their views that by then they probably won't even change their opinion. I agree that by stopping the parents racism beliefs at home racism would decrease but I don't see how that can be properly implemented. People are just going to teach their kids what they want to teach them.

This article has a good idea. Yet, the article itself is still racist. Black people are not "African-American." White people are not "Caucasian." Black people are black, and white people are white. I'm 14 years old. I am exposed to racism everyday. Everyone is racist in their own way. I am racist. The person who wrote this article is racist. The people of the world are racist. Racism is something you can't just stop. Teaching children about 9/11 is racist in one way or another. It teaches children to grow up thinking anyone who wears something foreign is different. I might be going way too far into depth with this, but I don't care. Even if it was written six years ago.
